The RE/MAX Insight team is proud to support a cause that is both personal and rewarding; and partner with a foundation that has made tremendous inroads in the fight against Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). SMA is a deadly and relatively common genetic disease and is the leading genetic cause of death in infants and toddlers. Victims either never acquire, or progressively lose, the ability to walk, stand, sit and eventually move. Children suffer increasing bone deformities, spinal deformities and ultimately fatal respiratory complications. Due to research and technological breakthroughs in recent years, scientific leaders(including those at the NIH) assert that, of all 600 neurological diseases, SMA is the closest to a treatment!
To help speed the realization of a treatment or cure, the SMA Foundation is committed to:
• Developing private sector involvement in SMA drug development by fostering alliances between academia, government, and pharmaceutical & biotechnology companies.
• Increasing government funding and support through targeted efforts to increase Congressional and NIH awareness.
• Raising awareness of SMA among government leaders, members of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, and the public at large.
